COP consists of volunteers from the Lost Creek Estates neighborhood that patrol both the neighborhoods of Lost Creek Estates and Mary’s Creek Estates. The first patrolling started in 1996. Since that time, crime has remained at a very low level. COP’s main task is to be observant and be additional eyes and ears for local law enforcement with vulnerability alerting directed at the residents.
COP is always looking for new members. According to the current city Citizens on Patrol Standard Operating Procedures (revised in October 2017), must not have a criminal record; be over 18 years of age; attend 4 hours of classroom instructions and then later will be scheduled for a ride along with a Fort Worth Police Officer, and be able to donate a minimum of 4 hours per month in either manning the patrol’s base station or actually conducting the street patrolling. In addition, applicants must have fingerprints taken with the Fort Worth Police Department as part of a background check. Interested parties should contact any of the COP members for more information. Contact information can be found in the NALCE Neighborhood Directory.
